AXE THROWING RULES

Axe throwing lane dimensions and specifications

AXES
We do not permit outside axes or weapons to throw due to our insurance policy. You must use what we provide, but don’t worry – you’ll love our axes!

BLACK THROW LINE
Participants must have their back foot behind the black throw line in order for their throw to count. You can step forward past this line with your other foot.

RED SAFETY LINE
Participants cannot cross the red safety line while axes are in play.

WOOD SAFETY LEDGE
Spectators and participants not currently throwing axes must stay behind the wood rail safety ledges while axes are in play.

THROWING
2 participants will be throwing at a time and must throw at the same time. participants may not “delay” in throwing the axe in hopes that opponent’s axe may fall out of the target or use delays for strategic advantage.

RETRIEVING AXES
After both axes are thrown, participants are permitted to cross the throwing and safety lines to retrieve their axes. If your axe sticks, pull it down and against the target first, then out to unstick it.

AXE THROWING SAFETY

WAIVER FORMS
All participants must sign a waiver before participating, and participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver for them. Download a PDF of our waiver HERE.

AXES
Every axe is inspected prior to each event to ensure the it is up to par, and blades are maintained and sharpened enough to stick to the target.

TARGETS
The wood targets are sprayed with water to ensure the axes stick and to reduce splitting and chipping. They are made of quality Canadian pine boards and will be replaced when they become worn out.

LANES
Fencing divides our lanes to ensure throwers and axes are contained. Only the 2 throwers and the axe throwing coach are allowed inside the lane at one time.

COACHES
Each event is assigned a trained axe throwing coach who will cover safety, demonstrate how to throw an axe, and run games. Coaches monitor the overall safety of the event as it’s happening, they will also provide tips and support to allow participants to throw to their best ability.
